Erotic dreams (Don’t worry there is no porn content in this blog post)

During the past months I woke up in the middle of a dream about sex. Unfortunately only one of them was actually about having sex (the act) and it was almost good as the real thing! My sexual dreams were about my ex, my fitness trainer :-) and Gordon Ramsay!!!! (why could I not dream about Brad Pitt???)

Today I googled what erotic dreams mean and decided to share the info with you, my ladies.

One hundred years ago Sigmund Freud concluded that almost 100% of our dreams represented some form of sexual repression. Freud believed that anything that was in the form of a container was a symbol for the vagina. Some of the symbols representing the vagina were a box, bowl, a room or a tunnel. Similarly, he believed that anything suggestive of penetration would represent the penis. Examples would be sticks, knives, pencils and nail files (due to the up and down rubbing). The sex act for Freud was any action in a dream reflecting up and down motion such as walking up and down stairs and ladders. Some of Freud's ideas about sex in dreams have been disputed while others remain in use today.

The newest research shows that only 8% of our dreams are about sex. Erotic dreams usually occur at times when you need a certain amount of release from tension (Gordon Ramsay… I must be under A LOT of pressure…) They are a safety valve that lets out your pent-up frustrations and sexual inhibitions. They may compensate for your unfulfilled sex (that sounds right :-) ). People who have balanced and happy sex lives in their waking life do not, as a general rule, dream about sex (!). As far as it’s known, the primary functions of dreams are to maintain sleep and prevent the brain from emotionally overheating. Dreams therefore are often concerned with resolving problems and restoring emotional equilibrium. If sexual issues are important to you or have been pushed out while you’re awake, your dreams will try to deal with these unresolved issues. Even nightmares can be therapeutic, as they draw to your attention many of the hidden fears that may be preventing you from moving forward.

So tell me ladies, how often do you have tantalizing sexual dreams? Do you have surprising dreams about people you’ve never really thought of (like your neighbour or… Gordon Ramsay) or dreams where your sexual identity has switched (maybe you're involved in a lesbian love fest when you're actually heterosexual). Or maybe, you'll be lucky enough to have a sexual dream whre you actually have o****m
(I’ve never been that lucky! However, there is a pill which can help you with this as I found out during my erotic dream research). Care to share any of the details?

Barb! How raunchy. I do not have a lot of erotic dreams but can remember a few that I have had. I can mostly remember kissing and a bit of under the clothes touching but nothing more than that. They are fun though and star me with someone I know or someone who represents a mix of men I know. It's funny when you have a dream like this about someone then have to see them face to face with the memory of your dream still vivid in your mind!

A very interesting post! I wonder why you had a erotic dream about Gordan Ramsay?

It's funny how your dreams mix up all aspects of your life - not always to the best result!

i have had sex dreams... I dont really remember the specifics, but it was good...
Hasnt happened for a while though, so maybe that means I am being fulfilled in real life haha and that my brain isn't going to emotionally overheat. Phew that is good news (I am sure my boyfriend will think so as well hahaha unlike some other boyfriend who might be a bit disappointed!!)
still a dream is a good way to live out your fantasies I guess, if you are lucky enough to have them!! Oh how funny, that means some people fantasize abotu GORDON RAMSAY!!!

I think I've dreamt about Gordon Ramsay because Mon and Kim mentioned they found him sexy. And it is different to fantasize about someone and dream about someone Jemma! I dream about Gordon R. but fantasize about Brad Pitt...

so it's been a few weeks since you posted your blog - any new dreams?

I had a dream last week that I was playing in the snow and I kept falling over because it was so slippery... the dream was really going somewhere in a weird way and then my alarm went off for work! =(
